This is a common myth. The Earth does experience warming and cooling over time, but a change this rapid is unprecedented. It is clear that recent warming is due to human activity. See this NASA page, or this short video for details. Prior to 800,000 years ago, it is true that carbon ppm levels have been higher than they are now. However, the Earth was not supporting 9 billion humans then!
